The Block contestants Josh Barker and Elyse Knowles are on the brink of listing their own renovation project — their Coburg home.

Knowles, a 24-year-old model, shared the news with her 650,000 Instagram followers after the couple featured on the cover of the Herald Sun’s Home Living Spring magazine earlier this month.

“Top secret … our home will be going up for sale soon,” she posted. “#excitingtimes.”

Barker told Home Living the California bungalow was “a dump, literally ready to be bulldozed” when they bought it.

CoreLogic records indicate the pair — the youngest team on the current season of the Channel 9 show — paid $600,000 for the property in 2014. The pair lived in the home while undertaking their renovation.

“We know how to live and breathe reno — when we did this house, we showered outside for six months,” said Knowles, a self-confessed tomboy who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty.

“We did it rough, there was no back wall for a couple of months at the peak of winter.”

A carpenter of 10 years and with more than 40 houses under his belt, Barker restumped and reframed their home, which, like their property on The Block, is a California bungalow.

“We basically started again, like we did on The Block,” Barker said.

It now features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan living and dining room and an outdoor entertainment area with a fireplace and barbecue.

Plants thrive in every room, with devil’s ivy in the living area and ferns in the bathrooms. The couple currently share the home with their Weimaraner, Isla.

But the drawcard is the home’s spacious outdoor entertainment area. It’s enclosed, with a fireplace, barbecue and potted maple trees.

“We needed it to be functional during both summer and winter — we have the fire going through all seasons,” Elyse says, pointing out the electric blinds and huge sliding doors opening out from the living area. “We love to socialise, and this space is perfect because we don’t always have to be inside the house when we’ve got people over.”
