Get your gallery game on! Here are five artful ways to  display photographs and artworks that you’re sure to get all hung up over.

1. ON THE SHELF

Don’t feel you have to hang everything directly onto a wall. Utilise open shelving to create a flexible arrangement – an especially useful strategy for renters, who may worry about causing damage to the walls.

Tip: Stand at least two metres back from a wall before finalising placement for a full room view.

2. POLE DANCE

Be playful with your art displays with different hanging methods, such as these ribbons strung on a timber rail.

Tip: Add interest to a blank wall with an arrangement of wall decals that will complement your artwork.

3. RULE OF THIRDS

Picture hanger Greg MacInnes from Hanging Around advises displaying works in odd numbers. Pieces in a variety of sizes should run off the same centre line, he says.

Tip: Try overlapping frames for a interesting gallery effect

4. SALON STYLE

A much-loved way to showcase a mix of art, the salon hang is an organic solution. A varied collection of pictures with a similar colour palette can make for a striking wall display.

Tip: Hang pictures around a corner in your home for something a little more unexpected

5. LINED UP

A large arrangement of art can be a spectacular focus point in a room, especially when the works are in the same colour palette.

Tip: Sarah Bunn from the Art Gallery Of NSW suggests you
test out the arrangement first and “cut out pieces of paper in the same size and attach to the wall to check the spacing”.
