Vico Magistretti (b. 1920) in 1969. Upon graduating from architecture at Milan Polytechnic in 1945, Magistretti designed for an incredible who’s who of furniture and lighting – O’Luce, Artemide, Cassina, Knoll International and De Padova. He also designed office products for Olivetti in addition to running an architecture and urban planning office. During his career, Magistretti has been awarded a gold medal and a Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale, two Compasso d’Oro and a SIAD (Society of Industrial Artists and Designers) gold medal.
What makes it special
The shade and the base are a near mirror-image of one another with smooth flowing lines that are at once futuristic and organic. Magistretti said of his own work, “I don’t like the design [element] to show too much.” This lamp is an excellent example of wonderful design at an affordable price.
