Pierre Paulin – Magis ‘Elysee’ modular shelving

Year

2009

One of France’s greatest designers of the 20th century, Pierre Paulin, designed this plywood shelving system shortly before his death last year. The design is unusual for two reasons. Firstly, Paulin is best known for his curvaceous upholstered seating pieces, which were designed for Artifort in the ’60s. And, secondly, the manufacturer of the shelving, Magis, makes 90 per cent of its products in plastic, so this lightweight, sustainable and modular system is the perfect product for a leaner, cleaner, brighter future.
