The Wayside Chapel asked its newest ambassador, Mr Jason Grant (and his little black book), to help revamp two Bondi Beach rental apartments.
Right in the heart of Bondi, amongst hip retailers and buzzy eateries, just a block back from the sand, is The Wayside Chapel. “Our mission is to create an accepting community with love at its centre,” says Wayside Bondi’s executive minister, Reverend Graham Anson. “We work towards places where people can rest, feel restored, and be loved back to life.”
The same approach was recently applied to two top-floor apartments at Wayside’s building, with the aim of renting them out to raise funds for Wayside. As the organisation’s newest ambassador, author and stylist Mr Jason Grant was well placed to help. “As a stylist working in the industry for 10 years, I have a really good address book!” he says.
Working with a small team from Wayside, he set about sourcing everything from kitchen appliances and tiles to furniture and linen, all donated or discounted. The two-month reno came in on time and on budget, and the result is a pair of beach-fresh apartments.
“I’m so happy I could donate my time and skills to make a difference in such a unique way,” says Jason. Graham is amazed at the transformation. “The apartments are fresh, new, light and welcoming,” he says. “That’s the best thing about them.”
